The chesterfield sofa is an emotive piece of shabby chic furniture. When you have bought one, you quickly start to appreciate that it's a particular product of which will stick with you any place you're going and, the sofa’s versatility means it should fit into almost any home design you have got in mind. It is incredibly hardwearing and will serve a lifetime, that is certainly more than can be said for various other settees in the marketplace.
Having said that, it’s not infallible and if it isn’t maintained and cleaned regularly, its sophisticated, impressive appearance could start to fade. We have always had Chesterfield sofas inside our family and they never fail to become the centerpiece of the room in which they live. This is, of course due to their classy and fashionable appearance, but also due to an easy and straight-forward cleaning regime that we all swear by.
According to whether your Chesterfield Sofa is leather or in rarer cases velvet, there are two different cleaning approaches to make use of. With minimal work, you too can remain proud of this gorgeous sofa for decades into the future.
LEATHER CHESTERFIELD SOFAS;
DAILY: Keep a large container of distilled water in a convenient location and work with the water to moisten a soft, non-abrasive towel. Then, lightly wipe down the the whole sofa using the cloth, removing dirt and hydrating the leather. (Distilled water is applied due to the fact the high chlorine content in most plain tap water leads to damage to leather as time goes on)
WEEKLY: Making use of a soft brush fitting on your vacuum cleaner, hoover beneath cushions and any place else dirt and dust might build up. Never vacuum without a brush fitting as applying a standard nozzle to the leather will mark and damage it.
MONTHLY: Use an approved leather cleaning and conditioning compound, adhering to the recommendations located on the reverse. There are many products and solutions to pick from but they all remove ingrained dirt from the surface and soften the leather, leaving it supple.
*Never choose wet wipes to wipe down leather surfaces - although it will likely create a good finish it, without a doubt, will greatly deteriorate the health of the sofa.
VELVET CHESTERFIELD SOFAS
Velvet Chesterfields can be a different kettle of fish due to the fact that they draw considerably more dirt and hairs (especially if you have pets or hirsute family members!). Velvets can be manufactured with different types of materials (silk, synthetics etc.) which means do examine manufacturer’s label for specific cleaning guidelines. Having said that, these following steps can easily be used on all velvet sofas.
DAILY: Again using a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner, run it against the nap of the velvet (raised, fuzzy surface) eliminating any dirt from beneath. Use the same approach below the cushions.
MONTHLY: Using a water-free, dry cleaning fluid, spray lightly upon any stained or dirty areas. Ensure that the fabric does not end up becoming overly wet. Apply a clean towel to the area and gently dab.
Never scour while using the cloth because this will cause damage to the fabric.
